Artista della carta,sognatore della forma,nonché scultore e performer, ha da sempre un rapporto privilegiato con gli alberi, a favore dei quali recupera la carta di giornale.Già nel periodo dell’Impruneta (1974-79) ne modellava palle, le documentava fotograficamente... poi ci si riscaldava. Successivamente usò la carta studiando il segno grafico che lasciavano le strisce lanciate in aria. Ma è dal 1996 che la carta è diventata la sua personale ”Ossessione”. Le performance lo vedono vestito con strisce di carta di giornale che usa anche per esprimere i contenuti del messaggio. Il suo percorso di artista ha un’importante svolta nel 2002, quando decide di vestirsi integralmente di giornale. Dalla madre impara a fare la calza e comincia così a trasformare le pagine in gomitoli di filo di tutte le misure: li ottiene attorcigliando e unendo una striscia dietro l’altra senza uso di forbici o colla. Il rifiuto di qualsiasi colore aggiunto fa sì che gli abiti e gli arazzi siano generalmente riconducibili alla testata del giornale usato, mentre alcuni pezzi monocromi, rivelano un paziente lavoro di cernita della pubblicità.Tecniche e strumenti usati sono quelli della tradizione: la tecnica dell’intreccio, i ferri da maglia, il telaio, l’ago da cucire,l’uncinetto. Gli strumenti spesso se li costruisce su misura perchè la creazione risponda completamente al suo progetto.Le performance dell’ultimo periodo, talvolta veri e propri defilè, hanno in comune l’unione dell’aspetto ludico a quello didattico: Ivano fila, fa la maglia, l’uncinetto e mette in evidenza i tanti suoni che la carta produce.

An artist of paper, a dreamer of form, as well as a sculptor and performer, he has always had a privileged relationship with trees, for the benefit of which he recovered newspaper. Already in the Impruneta period (1974-79) he was modelling balls of it, documenting them photographically... then heating up. Later he used paper, studying the graphic sign left by the strips thrown in the air. But it is since 1996 that paper has become his personal 'obsession'. His performances see him dressed in strips of newspaper which he also uses to express the content of the message. His career as an artist took an important turn in 2002, when he decided to dress entirely in newspapers. From his mother he learnt how to make stockings and thus began to transform the pages into balls of thread of all sizes: he obtained them by twisting and joining one strip behind the other without using scissors or glue. The rejection of any added colour means that the clothes and tapestries can generally be traced back to the header of the newspaper used, while some monochrome pieces reveal a patient work of sorting through the advertising.Techniques and tools used are those of tradition: the weaving technique, knitting needles, the loom, the sewing needle, crochet. The performances of the last period, sometimes real fashion shows, have in common the union of the playful aspect and the didactic one: Ivano spins, knits, crochets and highlights the many sounds that paper produces.
